Trevinge C2 Mug

$35.00

The Trevinge C2 is a 280 millilitre mug made from a smooth porcelain-stoneware blend and finished in a deep blue celadon glaze. It is smaller than the C1 and sized for a flat white, a short black coffee or a cup of tea that you finish before it cools.

The shape tapers from a wide base to a narrower rim. This keeps the drink warm, concentrates the aroma near the top and gives the mug a low, stable stance on the table. The walls are thinner than on the C1, which makes it lighter, at about 330 grams, and gives the porcelain blend a slight translucency near the rim when held up to light.

Celadon is a glaze that collects in recessed areas and thins out over edges. On the C2 it turns pale where it covers the throwing rings and gathers to a dark, almost ink-blue pool inside the base. Because the glaze is mixed and applied by hand, the shade varies from batch to batch.

The handle is a narrow loop sized for one or two fingers, set high on the body so the mug balances when full. The base is unglazed, sanded and signed with the studio mark and the firing month.

Because of its size and shape, the C2 also suits espresso-based drinks with a small amount of milk. A matching saucer is not offered; the wide, flat base is meant to stand on its own on a table or desk.

The C2 is fired to 1260 degrees Celsius and is safe in the dishwasher and the microwave. It should not go in the oven because of the thinner walls. Like every piece from the studio, it is made in small batches, and small differences in shape and glaze are expected. Orders ship in recycled paper packaging.
