Trevinge C1 Mug
$32.00
The Trevinge C1 is a 350 millilitre stoneware mug thrown on the wheel, one at a time, in a small two-person studio. Because each mug is made by hand, no two are identical: the height can vary by a few millimetres and the glaze breaks a little differently over the throwing lines on every piece.
The clay is a speckled buff stoneware fired to 1240 degrees Celsius, which makes it dense, strong and non-porous. The glaze is a satin oat color that turns slightly darker where it pools near the base. The foot ring is left unglazed and sanded smooth, so the mug does not scratch a table.
The body is straight-sided with a gentle curve at the bottom, and the walls are thicker than a factory mug. That keeps coffee or tea hot for longer and makes the mug feel solid in the hand. The rim is rounded and slightly rolled outward, which is comfortable to drink from.
The handle is pulled by hand and attached while the clay is still soft. It is wide enough for three fingers and leaves a gap so knuckles do not touch the hot body. The C1 weighs about 420 grams when empty.
The C1 is glazed inside and out except for the foot, so it does not absorb stains from coffee or tea. Its slightly flared rim also makes it easy to drink from while standing, and it stacks two high in a cupboard without chipping.
The mug is safe in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven up to 220 degrees. Each one is signed on the base with the studio mark and the month it was fired. Small variations in color, speckling and shape are part of the process and not defects. Orders ship in recycled paper packaging.
